Thiruvalla Municipality is located in Thiruvalla Taluk in Pathanamthitta district. Thiruvalla Municipality, spread across the villages of Thiruvalla, Kavumbhagam, and Kuttappuzha, covers an area of 27.94 square kilometers. To the north, it is bordered by the Peringara and Kaviyoor Panchayats; to the east by the Kaviyoor and Kuttur Panchayats; to the south by the Kuttur Panchayat; and to the west by the Peringara Panchayat. Most of the municipal area of Thiruvalla is flat in terrain. A small part consists of hills and the rest are fields. The main soils of this area are sandy loam, clayey red soil rich in clay, loam, and laterite. This area, known in ancient times as Shreevallabhapuram, is believed over time to have become 'Thiruvallabhapuram' and gradually shortened to 'Thiruvalla'. Thiruvalla is one of the fastest-growing towns in central Kerala today. It is also an area with the highest number of Malayalees living abroad in Kerala.
